Ever tried to sprint into a 20 mph headwind in order to escape a bird trying to tear through your helmet and eat your brains? (Or protect its fledglings, depends on your perspective).
It's hard.
Really hard.
It hurt. A lot.
But I escaped. Hopefully without bird flu.
Sounds like you've found a fine new place to do sprint intervals...we're dealing with the same nasty weather here...it was 79 at 6:30 am today with ride time forecasts calling for 95 and muggy...

Excellent spot for intervals. Even better, you never know when it'll happen so it simulates answering an attack.
ReplyDeleteThe bird pegged me again today. But by the time I hit that point, heading about due south, the winds were blowing at at least 25 mph right at me. I resigned myself to getting pecked. Still, I viewed this as training for climbing because I focused on simply controlling my breathing and keeping my heart rate steady. It worked.
Last time I rode in weather like yours today was awful. It's not the sun, it's the reflective heat from the pavement that just sucks the energy right out from you.
And, also, once I made the turn to go north back home I was able to hit 35.9 mph. Would have hit 40, probably, if there was no traffic.
Now to get my body temperature back down below the boiling point.
