  • The dulcimer

Things that Make Me Smile
  • Taking Joe Henry's music from Jesus's Son and reading a random blog outloud with it. My wife discovered that with properly placed pauses, you can create your own episode of This American Life.
  • Let's face it, Joe Henry's entire catalogue today.
  • The kids, natch.

Things that Shouldn't Exist
  • Kevin Federline
  • E!
  • Any further editions of Survivor. They smell, we get it.
  • Platypuseseseses. I don't even know how to spell them.
  • The em dash. Seriously, why do we need more than one?
  • Puffins. Personally, I feel penguins are just fine.
  • Radio programming directors
  • Other drivers
  • Tiny, tiny women driving giant vehicles with which they need a booster seat to drive

  1. I wholeheartedly agree with many of those. However. I can't live without the em dash. I respectfully submit that it be deemed Dash of Choice.

My point exactly. Puffins are totally uncalled for.

Gotta agree with Mrs. Weasel. Em dashes are the dashiest! Take away the em dash from a poet and it's like taking the scalpel from a surgeon.

Also can we add Mini Rolo Bites to the Things That Shouldn’t Exist list? I know, it sounds like what could be bad about mini Rolo goodness. But they are just so wrong! The chocolate to caramel ratio is totally flawed and they just make you pine for the real thing!

I'll admit to choosing the em dash purely for economic reasons. It's longer, therefore, more expensive. I do see its merits—that is I understand how it effects lives and livlihoods—and wouldn't want to besmirch its legacy.

As for mini-rollos, is that not redudant? Of course, we live in a world with three sizes of M&Ms. When will the excess end?
