Success

33.68 miles. It was touchy there at the end. I almost got off and carried the bike. I don't know why it was important to hit the number.

Noticed my bike tan now extends to my hands. Arms? Tan. Hands? Pale. Stupid gloves.

Matilda made it 8 miles, by the way. So, total, I have 41 miles or something today. Fun.

Now for food. Mmm.

    Gary,

Way to go! I hope you enjoyed your dinner as only a man starving from having used up all his muscle glycogen can. I also hope you left something for the others to eat.

As a side note,my hands look pretty similar but if you've got the Specialized Phat Tape on your bars you can probably do your shorter rides without gloves. It's that comfy and you'll get a set of callouses on your hand just below the thumb webbing that's unique to us cyclists. Kind of like the calf muscle split.

Danke. Though, I must admit that the distance wasn't exactly new to me . . . Hitting it exactly was interesting though. I'm approaching my solo distance limit of 50 miles. Once I hit that, as a diabetic, I feel I need a riding partner for safety reasons. I ride in a populated area, but I'd still feel better with the safety net.

I do have the Specialized tape. But we all know there's a dirty secret use of those gloves, especially during allergy season.

Ah...Grasshopper...you must learn to master the art of the ..."Snot Rocket". Simple, clean, propulsive. Then you may do without the gloves.

I do understand the safety precaution. SOunds liek you need to find a club through one of the LBS' and hook up with some folks riding your pace or maybe just a bit faster.

Ah, the snot rocket. Of all my skills, that isn't my best. And I'm including climbing in that estimation.

To be honest, I haven't tried very hard to find friends yet. In a funny way, I've found the solitude rather enjoyable; and most days that's just fine. But I do need to find a good Saturday group. The Dogfish and Big Shark's are a bit too swift for me and my buddy Mike, as well meaning as he is, secretly lies and I fear will end up hurting himself . . . What I need to do is swallow my pride and see what the night manager at my favorite LBS is up to . . .
