Not Ignoring You

I will write. Tell stories. Regale you with tales of derring-do. In fact, Gert and I busted a shoplifter last night. She's changed the story to bank robber, but media reports vary. Great story.

But, no time. We're going on vacation soon and, when you work for yourself, that means you have to work three times as hard to afford one day. Sucks. But, whatever.

Plus, school for the kids has been crazy. And wife's schedule has been crazy. And . . . on and on.

Where are we going? Disney World. All my aging hipster parent readers can chime in about how they are so socially responsible that they wouldn't dream of letting their children step foot into a Disney park and ruin their political training with princesses, fantasy and all of that bad shit.

My response? I like my kids. They want to go. So do I. I don't feel the need to place some sort of moral on a theme park. Is Disney a corporation? Yep. But so are all of my clients. Do my kids care? Not a bit. In fact, they shouldn't. They should worry about chocolate, cooties, bug guts and tutus. They shouldn't worry about multi-national corporations and their deceptive marketing schemes and . . . snore.

I live with my kids. Not through them.

So, while my daughters are running around in princess dresses having a good time pretending and living in a fantasy, you can scoff and call us names.

And mourn the childhood your child may never actually get to have.

Shame, too. Because childhood is fun.

  2. If I were to go anywhere on vacation right now (that wasn't Turkey), it would be Disney World. You and your family are going to have SO MUCH FUN it's incomprehensible. Good for you, and say hi to Spaceship Earth for me. SO jealous.

  3. Oh, the childhood trip to Disney World! That's what's wrong with this world, you know...people who didn't go to Disney when they were kids. They grew up crotchety. And sad. And generally not very nice. (Well, ok...maybe not all of them...)

I hope we get to see you guys either on your way there or on the way back...it'd be fun to see their faces when they see our bike room!

  4. ...the kids faces, I meant. Not the crotchety, sad, not-very-nice people. just thought I'd clarify.

Kathy: What do you mean THEIR faces? I've heard stories about that room. I'd expect, for me, it would be like opening the Arc of the Covenant in Raiders of the Lost Arc.

I'm trying to work something out with your hubby. I didn't realize we were coming so close. For some reason I thought you guys were further north. Of course, I only am familiar with three cities in Georgia and they aren't remotely related. We'll be on a tight schedule, so hopefully we can work something out.

Deborah: First, I'm not ignoring your Aids Walk. I'm going to donate, I promise. Secondly, I agree with you. Until last year in the National Park, WDW was my fantasy vacation. That's changed a little, and it's been knocked to number 2 by Mother Nature, but still . . . It's powerful stuff.

Little known fact on this blog: For the last eight years I've been helping on this site: http://www.intercot.com. Go there. Enjoy. Plan a vacation.

Oh, and I'm going back solo in Ocotober for ITNERCOT's 10th anniversary. Heh.

  6. Dude. Awesome.

I got back from the DIS two weeks ago and it cured my ills. But now I need more. More Candy apples. More pirate hats. More monorail. More humidity.
    More giddiness.

There isn't a family get together that we don't mention buying into DVC was the best thing we ever did as a family.

OK...let's demystify the bike room just a bit...There are only four bikes (and maybe a coule of frames). Granted I have tapes of the last five Tours de France but my wife thinks those are just taking up space. There's actually an entire bookcase given over to knitting stuff so it's not all bikes...
